One thing I'm curious about is to hear people's take on the stand-alone website that you need to visit and revisit in order to benefit from the content. I'm talking less about social sites like this one and more about the standard blog/company website/etc. I've noticed in my own Web habits lately that I'm less and less likely to return to sites and more likely to seek out exactly what I need the moment or stumble upon random sites/YouTube vids/etc.
Anyone else out there experiencing the same thing. Or are you die-hard fans of this site or that?
Good question Dennis. I'm experiencing the same thing. I am also exclusively visiting sites that:
-have a social element (comments, user content, etc.)
-I can subscribe to the feeds
-One time visits for presentation (new movie, concept, etc.) stumbled or directed to
I've found 80- to 90-percent of traffic to my website comes from Google searches. My emphasis is on local arts and entertainment but I also have a powerful calendar program. Now that I realize most people are stumbling on my site, finding what they need and leaving, it makes me care more about search engine optimization. I google everything for instant information but I do visit specific sites for their expertise.
Its true Melissa. I rarely even use bookmarks as it takes as much time to just type the name or topic in my searchbar's box --and who knows, maybe something 'better' is out there (always in the back of my head). SEO is crucial for many kinds of biz online (especially like one you've described).
