How not to expand and enrich the conversation around your business...

Hey folks :) I'm new around here, but I've been dealing with a hilarious conversation on my very young blog, and I needed to share.

Recently, I wrote a post reviewing a few of the web analytics programs I've recently tried. One review in particular, for LoopFuse, was negative (and rightfully so).

So the CEO/Founder of the company comes onto my blog and makes some insulting comments. Then, someone else leaves a smarmy comment. Though he didn't identify himself as a LoopFuse associate, I found a link to the company on his LinkedIn page.

Hilarious, but also very frustrating.

So obviously, one of the worst way to manage your online presence as a business is to attack software reviewers. My blog post only ranks about 91 on Google for their company name now, but a forum thread about the blog post ranks 16. The blog post was also stumbled, so I got more traffic to my blog than ever.

My question is this: How would you have handled it differently if you were the CEO of LoopFuse?

Wow, great question Lauren. What a foolish mistake by the CEO --you think being in the biz he/she'd know better (though I guess their are still plenty of old school online marketeers)!

The way to handle it is to address the issues in a non defensive manner. If you had negative things that were of substance, I'd address the issues as good points and share with you our plan to work on them --and thank you for the feedback! Otherwise, I would have tried to correct the misinformation by pointing to some good 'ol fashion facts.

Thanks for the post Lauren. I'll be curious to hear from you how this unfolds!

Warmly,
Leif

Yeah, you're not going to believe this. Yesterday, someone from LoopFuse attempted a DOS attack on our website.

Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire.

If you're interested, the story's here: http://www.consideropen.com/blog/2008/07/how-loopfuse-marketing-and...

It's bizarre. I thought it was fake until we called him this morning. He laughed when we brought up the DOS attack, even. *sigh* So frustrating.

Wow Lauren, I read the entire account on your blog. What a bizarre situation. I'm totally confused, with the comment apparently from Roy, what the truth of the matter is. That's the lame thing is that all this is sucking your (and other's) time. That's also why, unless its totally necessary, Troll comments should ultimately just be ignored or even deleted. Good luck with getting it sorted out!

You're right on that count. Easier to ignore a troll than someone who actually attempts to take down our website, I guess, but it was a huge time waster.

Ah well, it's over now. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
